To the French, it seemed Riel was hung because he was French and he was fighting to protect the interests of French people. Also in the 1880 s, the Manitoba School Question which was another issue of contention for the French speaking Canadians. In the 1880 s, the population of Manitoba became a majority of English speaking people, and so, the Manitoba government abolished the separate school system. Though only a minority now, the French people still had considerable numbers in Manitoba and so appealed their case to the Federal Government. It was only settled in 1896 by the LaurierGreenway compromise. In it, schools now had to give instruction in French if their were enough students requiring it (10 in rural schools, 40 in a town). This wasn t just happening in Manitoba unfortunately, in other provinces such as Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta, protection and the rights of the French speaking minority were slowly stripped away. This just reinforced the attitude that the English were trying to phase out the French culture and language and assimilate them.Another issue of bitter contention among French and English Canada was the conscription issue. This was the forcing of people into military service near the end of W.W.
I and II. The French opposed conscription and the English supported it.

The most inspiring example of this whole book shows how Michael Dell inspired his stockholders at a meeting. He walked in and showed a slide comparing the performance of Dells stock to that of Coca-Cola, Compaq, Intel, and Microsoft. The audience realized the slope of Dell was twice as steep as everyone else. After everyone was shocked Dell replied “ This concludes my presentation.” I honestly thought that was priceless because the numbers revealed it all. Now that is inspiration. Creating a flexible as well as a responsive organization can be tough in today’s always changing market. In today’s world the successful CEO’s will be those who breakdown slow, overly formalized hierarchies and decision –making processes. Business leaders have structured their organizations to be able to make decisions quickly.
Everything is speed if you want to be competitive rather it be research and development, financing, or production. CEO Bob Tillman of Lowe’s Companies says, “ We adapt to the way the customer wants to shop”. The ability to sell your product many different ways is a competitive edge many companies strive for. Dell Computer Company made it available for buyers to get it straight from the manufacturer.

Immigrants who were believed to be anarchists or those who advocated the overthrow of government by force or the assassination of a public officer were deported. This act was made mainly do to the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901. On February 5, 1917 another immigration act was made. This Act codified all previous exclusion provisions and added the exclusion of illiterate aliens form entering into the United States. It also created a barred zone(Asia-Pacific triangle), whose natives were also inadmissible. This Act made Mexicans inadmissible.
It insisted that all aliens pay a head tax of $8 dollars. However, because of the high demand for labor in the southwest, months later congress let Mexican workers to stay in the U.
S. under supervision of state government for six month periods. A series of statutes were made in 1917,1918, and 1920. The sought to define more clearly which aliens were admissible and which aliens were deportable. These decisions were made mostly on the aliens political beliefs. They formed these statutes in reaction to the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia, which led to a Russian economic recession and a surge of immigrants used to communistic ideals bringing along with them a red scare. The Immigration act of May 26, 1924 consolidated all of the statutes and laws in the past.
